’We wrote that’ is about giving a voice to young people living with disability and chronic illness.
Our goal is to produce an album of songs written and recorded in collaboration between these young people and acclaimed artists and songwriters with their own lived experience of chronic illness, disability and hospitalisation.
This album will be accompanied by a documentary, capturing each song's journey from initial conversations to final master.
Why we are doing this
Art connects and empowers. It breaks down stigmas and helps people reveal their authentic selves. It creates experiences that are challenging, joyful and rich with meaning.
Young people who have experienced serious health issues have important stories to tell. They have wisdom, insight and humour to share with us, but all too often we are afraid to listen. The soul of this project is the belief that their authentic voices and stories should be amplified and shared with the world through the power of song.
What drives us is getting to that moment when they listen to the final master of the song they've recorded, reflect on the journey they've been on and how far they've come, and say with pride "we wrote that".

Benny is an acclaimed early childhood educator with over 25 years experience, an ARIA-nominate children's music performer under the name Benny Time and the host of the children's music podcast Benny asking people questions. In early 2021 he established Major Minor Music Australia, with one main objective: the celebration, support and lifting up of Australian children's Music.
In late 2020 after many years of Autoimmune Hepatitis and cirrhosis struggles, Benny was diagnosed with PSC (Primary Schlerosing Cholangitis) a progressive condition which affects the biliary system causing Liver failure. The challenges he faced in finding someone he could have meaningful conversations with about his experience led him to connect with Luke, and to pitch the idea that became "We wrote that".
We are not for profit and rely heavily on both funding and the kindness of donations. Any contribution is both greatly appreciated and put to amazing use.
